However you plan to celebrate, if you’re in the US, you know that the holidays are all about keeping cozy, feeling festive, eating a lot, and relishing the nostalgia of years passed.
All these things are triggered by the smells you associate with them, which is why using essential oils in the right way can add an extra dimension to how you experience and enjoy the last days of the year.
Want to make your Christmas just a tad more festive, without spending too much? Here are our top three tricks:
1. Grab a diffuser
For a more christmassy atmosphere, find yourself an essential oil diffuser (preferably one like this, which is BPA-free) and start blending the following oils for that ultimate holiday scent:
Add a few drops of each oil in 50 ml of carrier oil:
Blend 1 – ginger + clove + cinnamon + nutmeg
Blend 2 – cinnamon + orange + clove + frankincense
Blend 3 – vanilla + frankincense + sandalwood
2. Spruce up your tree (and spice up your ornaments)
Using an artificial tree this Christmas? Add a few drops of pine oil to make it smell like there may be a real tree somewhere in your home. You can also add a few drops of cinnamon oil to pine cones and place them around your house to make it even more festive.
3. Make your own Christmas candles
Why buy an expensive scented candle when you can make your own? All you need is wax (try paraffin, or soy if you prefer all natural — just skip the beeswax), a thick wick, which you can purchase at most craft stores, and a bunch of your favorite essential oils (see No.1 for inspiration). You can find easy-to-follow instructions on how to make DIY candles across the internet. We love this one from the DIY network.
And that’s it! Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and plenty of Christmas cheer. Don’t forget to be merry, and be safe!
